Katrin Puetz is an award-winning entrepreneur and pioneer in the biogas sector, known for founding (B)energy, an international biogas company operating across Africa and Europe. With academic roots in ecological impact assessment and agricultural engineering, and a unique background as a cabinet maker, Katrin combines technical innovation with global field experience. She has developed several patented biogas appliances and is recognised for introducing household biogas solutions to Europe without relying on aid funding.

As a vocal advocate for “aid-free business,” she promotes sustainable, business-based partnerships with Africa and challenges the effectiveness of traditional development aid. In 2021, she co-founded BiogasUnite, a Pan-African initiative focused on repairing and improving biogas systems, particularly those from failed aid-funded projects.
