Join the World Biogas Association Council: A Call for Visionaries and Changemakers
The World Biogas Association (WBA) invites industry leaders, innovators, and changemakers to take an active role in shaping the future of the global biogas sector. Serving on the WBA Council offers a unique opportunity to lead, collaborate, and influence the development of a sustainable circular economy through biogas and anaerobic digestion technologies.
Why Join the WBA Council?
The WBA Council is composed of trailblazers from diverse sectors, united by a commitment to advancing the biogas industry and tackling global challenges. As a Council member, you’ll contribute your expertise to:
Strategic Leadership: Shape the roadmap for biogas and zero-waste initiatives, influencing policy, innovation, and global sustainability efforts.
Global Networking: Engage with international experts, policymakers, researchers, and innovators in the biogas supply chain, where business and technology meet.
Professional Growth: Enhance your leadership skills, broaden your knowledge of global trends, and gain insights into the challenges and opportunities of the circular economy.
Industry Visibility: Establish yourself as a recognised leader in the biogas sector, with opportunities to influence policy and industry standards.
Impact on the Planet: Drive progress on critical issues like climate change mitigation, energy security, and sustainable development, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
What Does the Role Involve?
As a Council member, your contributions will include:
- Providing strategic vision for the WBA’s activities.
- Identifying and overcoming barriers to achieving 50% of the Global Methane Pledge by 2030.
- Supporting the development of global alliances and partnerships.
- Shaping reports, publications, and best practices for the biogas industry.
- Representing the WBA externally and promoting its mission.
- Representing WBA members, and encouraging new members to join the WBA community.
The Council meets quarterly, including one in-person meeting annually. While there is no legal or financial obligation or liability, your involvement will be instrumental in driving the WBA’s mission forward.
The Bigger Picture: A Growing Opportunity
The circular economy, of which recycling organic wastes through biogas and complementary technologies is a significant part, represents a $4.5 trillion economic opportunity, with the potential to create six million net new jobs by 2030 (WRI). By joining the WBA Council, you can play a pivotal role in harnessing this potential, transforming waste into value, and accelerating sustainable solutions worldwide.
Ready to Make a Difference?
If you’re passionate about driving the biogas sector forward, we encourage you to explore this exciting opportunity. For more details on the nomination process, roles, and responsibilities, reach out to us by emailing Amber Walker at awalker@worldbiogasassociation.org.
WBA Council Appointments
As the global trade association for the anaerobic digestion (AD) industry, one of the World Biogas Association’s (WBA) key roles is to represent all sectors of the industry. To achieve this, it is essential to understand the issues affecting each sector and geography. To best support industry growth, we ensure that the WBA Council is as representative of the membership and the wider sector as possible.
We are now seeking up to eight new members to join the Council. Priority will be given to candidates with expertise in sectors and geographies highlighted in the ‘WBA Council Representation’ document, and to those who can cover multiple categories. The remit of the Council is outlined in the ‘WBA Council Remit’ document. Council members are appointed for an initial three-year term, renewable once.
Process for Council Appointments
We invite members to nominate potential candidates and later provide feedback on the shortlisted candidates. The final selection will be made by the Council, taking member views into account.
Stage 1 – Candidate Nominations
To nominate a candidate, please email Amber Walker at awalker@worldbiogasassociation.org by 31 January 2025, including:
- The sector(s) your company represents (including any not currently represented).
- The countries or regions your company specialises in.
- The candidate’s name, role, and a brief summary of their relevant experience.
- Any additional skills or relationships the candidate brings to the Council.
- Why the candidate would add value to the Council.
Nominations must be supported by at least two other WBA members, who should also email Amber confirming their endorsement by the same deadline.
Stage 2 – Voting
Once nominations are reviewed, the Council will create a shortlist grouped by sectors. All WBA member companies will be invited to vote for the shortlisted candidates via an anonymous SurveyMonkey poll, running until 28 February 2025. Each member company has one vote, so internal agreement is essential.
Stage 3 – Final Council Decision
The Council will review the voting results and may meet with the top candidates in each sector before making final appointments.
This process ensures the Council remains representative and well-equipped to guide the WBA in supporting the growth and development of the biogas industry.
