With a BA (Hons) in Economics from Hindu College, University of Delhi, and an MA in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, he joined the Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS), part of the Indian Civil Services, in 1989 and served in Indian Railways until 2005. He then worked as Director (Sugar, Ethanol and Sugar Development Fund) in the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, from 2005 to 2010. From September 2010 to 2022, he served as Director General of the Indian Sugar Mills Association, playing a key role in the development of India’s sugar and ethanol sectors. He is currently the Co-Promoter of two 100 KLPD grain-based ethanol plants located in Bihar and Jharkhand.
