Key takeaways from the World Biogas Summit & Expo 2026

The global biogas community came together in Birmingham on 8-9 July 2026 for another successful World Biogas Summit & Expo, marking a special milestone as co-host World Biogas Association celebrated its 10th anniversary. Bringing together policymakers, investors, technology providers, project developers and industry leaders from across the world, this year’s event demonstrated that the conversation has shifted decisively from recognising biogas’ potential to delivering deployment at scale.  

Below are some of the key themes that emerged this year alongside the high-level discussions, technical sessions and networking. 

Celebrating ten years of progress 

As the World Biogas Association marks its tenth anniversary, the Summit also provided an opportunity to reflect on the remarkable progress achieved over the past decade.

Biogas has moved from the margins of global energy conversation to becoming an increasingly recognised solution for methane mitigation, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and circular economic development. 

The focus now is ensuring that this momentum translates into implementation across every region of the world. 

Looking ahead 

The conversations in Birmingham reinforced that the next phase of industry growth will be defined not by technology development, but by delivery. 

Governments, businesses, financial institutions and industry must now work together to unlock investment, strengthen policy frameworks, and accelerate deployment worldwide.
