Welcome to this edition of the WBA Newsletter.

I’m delighted to share that in 2025, global investment in renewables, grids, storage, low-emissions fuels, nuclear, efficiency, and electrification is projected to reach twice the amount directed toward oil, gas, and coal—surpassing $2.2 trillion. This is not just a milestone, but a powerful signal of the accelerating momentum toward a cleaner, more resilient energy future.

This insight from the IEA could not have come at a better time, as industry leaders in the biogas sector converge on the NEC in Birmingham for the World Biogas Expo and Summit 2025, taking place 9–10 July (just a quick train ride from London).

Our industry is the key to cutting emissions, replacing fossil fuels and fertilisers, boosting energy security, and protecting our environment. Our most exciting solutions will be on display in Birmingham, alongside leading insights and technical sessions dedicated to our sector.

I invite those able to join us in Birmingham to attend the AD & Biogas Industry Awards and Gala Dinner on 9 July, where we’ll celebrate the innovators driving our industry forward.

On World Environment Day, 5th June, the World Biogas Association (WBA) signed a landmark agreement with the State Government of São Paulo, Brazil, marking the launch of a strategic partnership to implement the #MakingBiogasHappen (MBH) programme in the state.

This milestone signals the beginning of the second phase of the MBH initiative, during which we will collaborate with national and local stakeholders to attract investment, develop high-performance biogas infrastructure, and establish locally tailored policies and standards to support the sustainable scaling of biogas.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Ms. Natália Resende, Secretary for Environment, Infrastructure, and Logistics of São Paulo State, in the presence of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas—highlighting strong political commitment to advancing the biogas sector.

Last week, we proudly represented the global biogas sector at London Climate Action Week, joining key discussions on climate action—including the CCAC High-Level Super Pollutant Reception. With speakers including Ed Miliband and COP30 President Ambassador Corrêa do Lago, it’s clear that methane and other short-lived climate pollutants are finally getting the attention they deserve.

I look forward to meeting you at the World Biogas Expo and Summit 2025 – please find me at the WBA stand and the Summit Theatre, where we can discuss how we galvanise our sector to meet today’s challenges.
