WBA India Convenes First MBH Steering Committee in Madhya Pradesh

World Biogas Association (WBA) India team,  Dr Dilip Kumar Khare, Technical Advisor and Founding Director WBA India and Ms Bindu Lathwal, MBH Lead recently visited Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, to participate in the inception meeting of the Steering Committee for the Making Biogas Happen (MBH) Programme, marking a key milestone in advancing the state’s biogas ecosystem.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Manu Srivastava, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), New and Renewable Energy Department (NRED), Government of Madhya Pradesh, and was attended by senior representatives from key departments including Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Dairy, Energy, and state agencies. WBA presented the MBH programme framework, outlining its role in scaling biogas deployment across transport, industrial, and rural energy applications.

The discussions led to strong inter-departmental alignment and agreement on:

  • Convening a state-level biogas stakeholder consultation to address sectoral challenges,
  • Identifying Compressed Biogas (CBG) project sites for assessment under WBA’s Anaerobic Digestion Certification Scheme (ADCS), and
  • Strengthening institutional coordination mechanisms to support programme implementation.

During the visit, the WBA delegation also met with Hon’ble Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Mr. Rakesh Shukla, and Hon’ble Minister for Animal Husbandry & Dairy, Mr. Lakhan Patel, both of whom extended strong support for the MBH initiative. The Animal Husbandry Department shared its plans to develop large-scale integrated cattle farm projects incorporating biogas and biofertilizer systems, where WBA’s technical frameworks can provide significant value.

This engagement reinforces WBA’s growing collaboration with the Government of Madhya Pradesh and its commitment to supporting the development of a robust, sustainable, and scalable biogas ecosystem in India.
