Tenders wanted for CHP project at wastewater treatment facility

The Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (WLSSD) in Duluth, Minnesota, has issued a bid for tenders to develop the biogas facility at its wastewater treatment facility.

WLSSD’s Combined Heat and Power energy project will allow it to use the biogas produced at its regional wastewater plant to generate more than a third of the electricity needed to power the treatment plant. WLSSD also plans to recycle additional wastes to increase biogas production.

Investing $24.9 million over 5 years, WLSSD has projected it can reduce its electricity purchases by over half, moving toward its goal of energy neutrality.

Bids have to be lodged by June 13th.
