Puragen wins three major international awards for environmental innovation

Puragen is celebrating a landmark year of global recognition, having secured three prestigious international awards for its groundbreaking work in sustainable purification and circular waste solutions. The company has been honoured with the Green Apple Silver Award, the Lorenzo Cagnoni Award for Green Innovation, and the 2025 AD & Biogas Industry Award for ‘Research and Innovation’, underscoring its leadership at the forefront of environmental best practice.

Green Apple Silver Award for environmental best practice

Puragen received the Silver Environment Award in the 2025 Green Apple Awards, competing against more than 1,000 nominations worldwide. Its project, “Waste reduction in the biogas industry”, was recognised at a ceremony at the House of Lords, Westminster Palace, hosted by Phil Williams.

The judges highlighted the significance of Puragen’s innovation:

“Puragen developed a proprietary process to thermally reactivate high-sulphur activated carbons from biogas plants – materials previously destined for hazardous landfill. Operational since late 2023, the first-to-market solution turns ‘waste’ media into feedstock for repeated reuse in purification, cutting disposal costs and advancing circularity in renewable gas.”

Following this award, Puragen has been invited to publish its work in The Green Book, the global reference for environmental best practice. The company may also advance to the Green World Awards 2026, with 100 trees set to be planted in its name through the UN Billion Trees initiative.

Lorenzo Cagnoni Award for Green Innovation at Ecomondo 2025

Puragen’s achievements were further recognised at Ecomondo 2025 in Italy, where the company received the Lorenzo Cagnoni Award for Green Innovation, honouring the leading innovation in the Bioenergy & Agriculture category.

This award acknowledges Puragen’s breakthrough CR3 reactivation technology, which enables high-sulphur spent carbons from biogas and biomethane plants to be safely and sustainably recycled – eliminating a hazardous waste stream and advancing circularity within the renewable gas sector.

2025 AD & Biogas Industry Award for ‘Research and Innovation’ at the World Biogas Expo

Completing a trio of international successes, Puragen also secured joint first place – alongside Wales & West Utilities – in the 2025 AD & Biogas Industry Award for ‘Research and Innovation’ at the World Biogas Expo.

Presented at the expo, the award celebrated Puragen’s high-sulphur reactivation technology for its significant impact on the biogas industry. This recognition follows closely on the heels of Puragen’s recent global PFAS abatement award, further reinforcing the company’s technical and commercial leadership.

Leading the way in circular, sustainable purification

Together, these awards showcase Puragen’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of activated carbon purification and helping industries transition to more efficient, compliant, and environmentally responsible processes. The company’s innovations are enabling customers across biogas, energy, water and industrial sectors to solve complex environmental challenges with sustainable, circular solutions.
