Member press release – Anaergia’s Easy Energia Facility Receives High Commendation for Best Biogas Plant above 1 Mwe at the Global AD and Biogas Industry Awards 2023

BURLINGTON, ONTARIO—April 11, 2023 – Anaergia Inc. announced that its Easy Energia Ambient facility in Pontinia, Italy, has been “Highly Commended” in the Best Biogas Plant above 1MWE category of the global 2023 Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Industry Awards. The annual awards program, which this year evaluated a record number of entries from over 20 countries, is organized by the Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association and the World Biogas Association. The 2023 awards were presented last week at a ceremony in Birmingham, UK.

Anaergia’s Easy Energia Ambiente plant prevents about 8,300 metric tons per year of carbon dioxide emissions by anaerobically digesting up to 36,450 metric tons of landfill-diverted organic waste and converting it into about 3,215,000 cubic meters of renewable natural gas (also called biomethane). The renewable natural gas is injected into the region’s gas pipelines. The plant also treats the digestate that remains after the anaerobic digestion process to create about 4,500 tons per year of high-quality natural fertilizer.

Easy Anaergia Ambiente receives the food waste it processes from waste collection companies operating in the region surrounding Rome. The food waste is converted into biogas with Anaergia’s high throughput and high efficiency Omnivore® technology and is upgraded to pipeline quality renewable methane using other proprietary technologies of Anaergia.

We are honoured to have been recognized in this prestigious global awards program,” said Kunal Shah, Anaergia’s Chief Growth Officer. “This facility is a superb example of private sector investment and partnerships between multiple stakeholders to achieve decarbonization by converting waste to renewable fuel.
