As we have written in other occasions, the biogas industry will benefit enormously from strong targets on separate collection of biowaste across the EU and therefore with great pleasure I inform you that this working has been agreed. By 2023 all EU nations must implement source segregation of food waste.
Currently most EU nations do not separately collect their food waste. This leads to emissions of GHG such as methane as well as representing a substantial loss of potential renewable energy, nutrients for soil and emissions savings.
The new Directive goes a long way to changing these scenarios and represents a once in a lifetime opportunity for the biogas industry in Europe.
